Network

The PointB community is a network that is more than a sum of its parts. For this inaugural PointB Virtual Exhibition, artists have submitted works that address the idea of rhizomatic development, and that explore the idea that a network has nodes with dense connections. How do communities grow from a network; how do nodes become portal points; and how are artists transmitters of ideas and connections?

Jana Astanov

Primary Connection is a shamanic exploration within the female community of Red Temple. Started in July 2015, the project is ongoing and continues to manifest on each New Moon as a durational performance/installation and intentional community. The focus is on a shamanic journey lead by a female shaman with an aim to deepen the bonds of the community. The photograph renders the experience as if it was a dreamstate.

This image of vibrations in water reflects the way I feel about Point B and it's mission in the world at this moment of transition - for Point B and for humanity as a whole - a lot is at stake. It is an image of Light, of Space, of Silence, of Sanctuary. It unites the simplicity of water, of architecture, of Nature's deep unknown, transcendent resonances which make makes network and connection possible and discovery imperative.

Men at Work (remix)

video

Lauren Comito

Our actions and movements are influenced by our environment including which is within our proximity. This video was made while observing two men at work. It serves as evidence that these men had spent significant time working together, due to the synchronicity and intuitively choreographed nature of their movements.

This project explores the unceasing flow of information in the Internet and investigates the differences of codified language in different cultures. The dimensions of the color lines are determined by frequency of words used in different languages (01-English, 02-Chinese, 03-German, 04-Arabic, 05-French, 06-Hebrew, 07-Japanese, 08-Korean, 09-Polish, 10-Russian, 11-Spanish, 12-Turkish)

In Cuttings (from New York) intersecting strips of colored text reference the gridded network of New York street and subway maps. Disrupted sentences and incongruous word flows record the 'chatter' of the city - the snippets of conversation, television advertisements, talk-back radio, text messages, subway announcements, news bulletins and continuous stream headlines – that form networks of communication and relationships in contemporary culture.’

Breach

Anita Groener

Breach (3) is a three-dimensional drawing that deals with the current socio-cultural condition of the world, in which the geopolitical landscape is largely determined by conflict and resistance. Breach shows our world as a circular battlefield, littered with casualties: countless tiny figures, cut from black paper, walking, standing, kneeling, falling, lying down but also working together and supporting each other. Each individual disappears into the crowd and is also essential for the emergence of that same crowd.

Stefan Kürten

Referencing the title of a mid 20th century song by Willie Mae Williams, of the group Guitar Evangelists, Where the Sun never goes down manifests as an idyllic domestic setting, bathed in golden light. Yet there is a sense that this is a liminal space, evoking a sense of longing, memories and dreams.

Where the Sun never goes down documents the process of producing a large scale painting of the same title, and how it developed over a 4 month period. I composed and performed all parts of the soundtrack, Golden, to respond to work.
